Music Muse

1901 - Phoenix
I was living in a tiny pastel green house in Cortez, Colorado, when I first heard this song.
It wasn't on the radio. I only heard a snippet of it on a Cadillac commercial on TV. But I fell in love with the beat and every time the commercial came on, it caught my ear. This was in 2009. I didn't have Shazam on my phone at the time, so I did some research on the Internet to find the song's name. It wasn't hard. "1901" by Phoenix. I had never heard of the band, but I downloaded the song on I-Tunes and it instantly became one of my all-time favorites. I know that, because here it is almost 2013 and I still feel the same way when the opening chords start playing. Transformed, Translated, Enraptured, Awestruck, Hooked Like A Fish - all the adjectives that describe the power music has over me.
When I hear that song now, as I did this morning, I am instantly transported to the house in Cortez with its wooden floors and four rooms. I'm sitting at my dining table which also served as my desk. My laptop is in front of me, and "1901" is playing loud through the speakers. Outside, it's snowing. Big fluffy flakes float past my windows and a thick blanket covers the yard, my car and the street. I'm warm and cozy in my little house, the gas wall heater blasting, but I'll take my dog Easy for a walk soon. The thought of pulling on my snow boots and jacket, gloves and scarf, and heading out into the silent snow makes me happy.
Much like the way this memory makes me feel now.
