In our ongoing battle
Of the middle-age bulge
We eat a lot of salads
For dinner, big salads
Every single week
And I actually enjoy
These salads, making
Them and eating them
Crave them, in fact
So it's a good thing
The salads contain a
Smorgasborg of yum
Fruits and veggies
Nuts and crispies
Chicken, peppered ham
Mesquite-smoked turkey
Cheese, lots of cheese
Hard-boiled eggs
(No yolks for me, oh no)
And as I told
My Chuck tonight
When he gave me
A hug and thanked
Me for dinner
I said:
Yes, I like them too
They're better than
Eating fried foods
Which I can't eat
Anyway, anymore
Because it hurts my
Middle-aged stomach
But.....the next time
We do choose badly
It's going to be
Fried chicken.
I wish you were close - we all (bring Chuck!) could go to a great middle-eastern restaurant in SA near Ingram Mall - has a great selection of veggies and marinades - just can't get enough! =D
ReplyDeleteMmmm...that sounds delicious! Someday...
DeleteSo true... But tonight I decided I didn't care and ate icecream... lol

I really, really, really wanted some cake. But we didn't have any. I guess that means I get to eat two pieces next time, right!?
DeleteThe yolk is the best part. I like fried chicken. When I was a young boy in Hurst, my parents always got a bucket of the Colonels finest when the grandparents visited. I hated it, would beg for a cheeseburger. Now in my middle age I prefer the fried chicken, but i like it with Hooters sauce and not the secret recipe. Maybe I should try more salad, with chopped egg yolks and cheese?
ReplyDeleteOh man, now I'm hungry for KFC, cheeseburgers and Hooters! ~drool~
DeleteSweet poem!
