In dreams the origami of the brain
opens like a fist, a pomegranate,
an expensive geometry.-from "Night Madness Poem" by Sandra Cisneros
She is my favorite poet. Her book of poetry "Loose Woman" is my go-to, my inspiration, my muse. Her poems are seductive, sensual, emotional, colorful, vivid. They are outstanding, to me. To others, they may not say a thing. But to me, to me they speak volumes.
I have been in a writing funk this past week. I don't know why. I never know why. It just happens, you know. It sneaks up on me in the dark, probably while I'm sleeping, and creeps into my brain. Suddenly, I'm not writing. The thought of writing fills me with angst so I turn away. I watch TV or read stuff on the internet, the blogs of my friends, Facebook. I check the garden, play with the dogs, eat something. Always eating something.
So my friend wrote me and said, You're overdue, baby. I pretended to not understand, but then he told me to just write, anything, anything at all, just write. Now that's a good friend.
Here I am. Not much to say, still. But I'm writing.
Thanks, Steve

Oh, that is very lovely, that poem! I’ma stealing that for sure!
ReplyDeleteAnd I didn’t really tell you to “write”. I told you to “post”.
Sometimes I have to post a bunch of crap before I finally write something that’s OK.
Before something nice falls out.
Thanks for sharing that verse, its very nice.

But Steve, to me posting is writing. That's what I heard (or read) in your message...and it worked! That's all that matters. :)
DeleteSorry you are having a hard time writing. It will begin to flow again, like water in a stream that flows slowly, then starts rushing toward the coast!
ReplyDeleteI have never read Sandra Cisnero's books. Are they good?
Love, Mom
I like her books. They're different!
DeleteI want to barrow that from you! Or maybe I'll download it onto iBooks... I could use some beauty like that in my life for sure.
